A Filipino domestic worker was caught shoplifting in a convenience store in Taiwan August 2.

With the help of CCTV footage, the woman, 46, was caught red-handed attempting to steal cosmetics in a store in Pingtung County in southern Taiwan. In her effort to escape trouble, the woman spoke only in English and feigned refusal to understand the local language security staff used when confronting her.

A CCTV footage also showed the same woman leaving the shop without paying for merchandise a few weeks earlier.

A patrol from the Yanpu Police Station in Ligang Precinct of the Pingtung County Police Bureau received a report that a customer had hidden a powder foundation and an eyeliner in her handbag and tried to leave without paying, according to the Pingtung County government.

When police arrived, the woman was arguing in English with the shop assistant, who could not speak English. A female officer named Liu, a university graduate from the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung City, spoke to the woman in fluent English, The United Daily News reported.

The Filipina admitted her guilt and was arrested for shoplifting.
