A Filipino nurse has sustained multiple stab wounds after he was stabbed by a man while on duty inside a hospital in Saudi Arabia, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported.
Emergency room nurse Rolando Mina, 29, a native of Caloocan City, was seated in a desk when he was attacked by a 22-year-old Saudi Arabian national on May 17.
The whole incident was captured by the hospital’s closed-circuit television camera. The video footage showed the suspect slowly approaching the victim and suddenly pulled out what appears to be a bladed weapon. Mina then tried to block the knife with his arms as other hospital staff managed to push the suspect away from the victim.
The suspect, according to the DFA, is now in police custody and the incident has been endorsed to the public prosecutor for investigation as authorities continue to determine the motive of the attack. Mina claims he does not know the suspect.
Hospital management also provided him with security guards and assured him of assistance, including payment of his salary while recovering.
The Office of the Consulate General has also dispatched case officers to assist Mina and coordinate with local authorities handling the case.
