When the life of a Singaporean toddler was in danger, a Filipina domestic worker’s instinct prompted her to bravely deal with danger without thinking twice in order to save him.

One thing to note: the toddler isn’t even her own ward.

Filipino helper Sheryl’s prompt action and selflessness prevented the young boy from hurting himself further.

The story was recounted by the toddler’s mother through a Facebook post.

“Here’s a frightening yet touching story on how a Filipino helper Sheryl saved my toddler from an incident which took place at my sister’s house. I am grateful to her quick-witted and selfless act who prevented my son from further injuring himself.”

According to Peirong, the mother, her son had just used the toilet and as their helper Jena was flushing the bowl, he pulled on the tempered glass sliding door a little too hard, causing it to shatter on top of him. The bathroom floor was consequently “covered with thousands of tiny glass shards”.

Tempered glass, often used at home as glass table tops, glass shelves and tables, are treated so the that when shattered, it crumbles into small granular chunks and less likely to cause severe injury. However, to Peirong’s horror, she saw blood streaming down her son’s face.

The frightened boy’s first instinct was to step out from the scene, but Sheryl, who was Peirong’s sister’s helper, shouted at him to stop moving.

Sheryl then told Jena, the boy’s nanny, to carry him up, but she was in a state of shock.

So without thinking twice, Sheryl walked into the toilet barefoot to get the toddler out.

“She could have dangerously hurt herself but I was completely touched by her braveness and selfless act,” said Peirong in the post, adding: “She is a remarkable person who always puts others before herself.”

For her brave act, Sheryl was thankfully unharmed, and Peirong’s son only suffered minor cuts on his head.

The Filipina woman’s quick action saved the boy from suffering a much worse fate.
