Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office IX released P3,320,000 worth of death and burial benefits to twenty six overseas Filipino worker dependents/beneficiaries. Two dependents will receive an amount of P220,000 and 24 others will each receive P120,000. Death and Burial Benefits are provided to dependents/beneficiaries of active OFW-OWWA members who died during their overseas employment.
Death benefit worth P100,000 plus P20,000 Burial Benefit shall be given to dependent/beneficiary of OFWs who died a natural death while P200,000 Death Benefit plus P20,000 Burial Benefit shall be given to dependent/beneficiary of OFWs who died by reason of accident.
The dependents of the deceased OFW shall be automatically entitled to education and livelihood assistance under the Education and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP). ELAP is a program designed for survivors of the deceased OFWs who were active OWWA members at the time of death. The two components of the program are Education and Livelihood Component. In the education component, financial assistance will vary depending upon the grade level of the qualified dependent. For grade school, financial assistance awarded shall be Five Thousand P5,000.00 per year; for high school financial assistance shall be P8,000 per year and for college, financial assistance shall be P10,000 per year.
For livelihood component, the surviving spouse shall receive P15,000 worth of livelihood package.

OWWA RWO-IX is scheduled to release more livelihood assistance during the Migrants Workers’ Day Celebration on June 29, 2017 at Royce Convention Center, Grand Astoria Hotel, Canelar, Zamboanga City.
