A Filipino man has been arrested in Kuwait for allegedly forging documents belonging to a telecoms company that lead to smartphone thefts which he sold reportedly for deeply discounted prices.
According to a report by Kuwait Times, the Filipino, who was not named, stole the password of a friend who worked in the telecom company, and gained access to information about customers. After tinkering with the system, the suspect managed to stash 17 iPhone 7 Plus units and mobile plans, registering them under the names of existing customers whose information were saved on the system.
Without capital money and looking to make a quick cash, the Filipino sold the smartphone units for 20 per cent less than their original price.
The man was arrested after several customers reported that they received payment notices of phone plans they never purchased.
During police interrogation, the Filipino admitted to committing the crimes.
