A Filipina on death row after she was meted the death sentence in the United Arab Emirates in 2015 still has time to appeal her case, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed Friday.
“Mahaba pa yung legal process at patuloy pa rin tayong umaasa na mao-overrule itong death penalty,” DFA Spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Charles Jose said, referring to the case of Jennifer Dalquez, whose last hearing before the UAE Court of Appeals was earlier this month.
The decision is expected to come out in February 27. But if the verdict upholds the current ruling, the decision ca still be elevated to the UAE Supreme court.
Dalquez was jailed in 2014 for killing her Arab employer who attempted to rape her.
