A Filipina domestic helper based in Italy died after she was hit by a car.
According to a report by GMA News 24 Oras Weekend, Myrna Reyes was on her way home when she was hit by a sports utility vehicle in Milan. The Filipina reportedly suffered head trauma. But before she died, Reyes managed to inform details of the incident to authorities while at the hospital.
The report said Reyes died an hour later due to internal bleeding.
While it’s currently unclear if Reyes is a member of OWWA, which extends death benefits to members who die abroad, the OFW-centric organization is working to bring the victim’s remains back to the Philippines.
Reyes’ husband will receive a cash incentive and livelihood assistance.
OFWs who are OWWA memebrs are entitled to P200,000 for death due to accident and a burial benefit of P20,000.
