A Filipina domestic helper in Hong Kong was held under custody possibly facing charges relating to the discovery of a dead newborn baby inside a toilet of a shopping mall last week.
The woman, 37, was arrested Tuesday after an extensive review of a security camera footage of the scene, according to a report by local Apple Daily.
She was held in detention pending further investigation. The suspect confessed to giving birth to a stillborn infant and dumping it in a shopping mall toilet in Sham Tseng, investigators said.
A clerk found the baby in Chan Kee Plaza on the night of April 4, wrapped in plastic with the placenta and umbilical cord still intact.
Forensic investigators said the infant had no injuries but had been dead for more than 48 hours.
According to a report by Ming Pao Daily, the woman recently quit her job from a family based in Tsuen Wan.
