Bad Luck at NAIA: Officials Eye Feng Shui Expert

After the embarrassing blackout that caused cancellation of 82 flights at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, an official has urged authorities to consult a geomancer to take away the “bad luck” that was blamed for a string of problems that disrupted the country’s premier air hubs.

Certain people in authority have expressed concern over the series of unfortunate incidents such as the collapsed ceiling, a death and a serious injury when two people jumped from the upper floor of the airport on separate incidents, a woman tried to hang herself from a staircase, and a security guard dead after he was thrown off from a motorcycle, a report by the Philippine Star said.

Jose Angel Honrado, Manila International Airport Authority general manager tagged bad luck as the cause that hampered airport operations for five hours late Saturday and early Sunday.

The official, who refused to be identified, had recommended to NAIA-3 manager Octavio Lina to consult a feng shui expert. Lina said he might suggest the idea to Honrado for approval.

The said official said a feng shui expert could identify what could be wrong with the design of the building and even ward off “evil spirits” with rituals.

The source said that local shamans could be tapped to make sure they have covered all the bases.

Airport officials traced the bad luck to how NAIA-3 was constructed, saying a whole community and a chapel across the street were demolished so the “desecration” now needs to be rectified, even though a bigger church has already been built on the site of the previous one.
