A 27-year-old Filipino domestic helper died after she fell from height at Hong Kong International Airport Thursday morning.
According to Hong Kong News, the woman, surnamed Solomon, was found lying unconscious on the ground floor of the airport’s Terminal 1 underneath area G of the departure hall.
“The police received a report at around 7:43 a.m. that there was a woman lying on the ground in Terminal 1. She was brought to Princess Margaret Hospital, where she was certified dead,” the spokesman said in a phone interview.
The officer added that initial probe showed no signs of suspicious causes about the woman’s death, who was believed to have fallen from the second floor bridge. A separate report from Oriental Daily said police did not find any suicide note in the scene.
If ruled as suicide, Solomon’s death would be the fifth case of suicide involving a Filipino domestic helper this year. Another investigation is ongoing relating to the death of another Filipina domestic worker found under a bridge in LOHAS Park in Tseung Kwan O last month.
Consul General Bernardita Catalla has expressed concern over a string of suicide cases involving Filipino domestic helpers, noting that three of them resorted to such actions due to financial matters.
There are four cases of Filipino domestic helpers committing suicide in Hong Kong in the entire year of 2015.
