SSS Request for ‘Performance Bonus’ Slammed

The leadership of the Social Security System (SSS) under its president Emilion De Quiros Jr has been slammed for asking for a performance bonus amidst its failure to implement the P2,000 across the board pension increase.

Vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr, reelectionist Senators Ralph Recto and Vicente Sotto expressed opposition over the granting of bonuses to officials and employees of the said agency.

Saying that it performed well in 2015 in its collection efficiency and granting additional benefits to pensioners, SSS leadership has sought the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GCGOCC) for a “performance bonus.”

“The failure of the SSS to provide the P2,000 is a clear failure in performance. They certainly do not deserve a performance bonus!” said Marcos.

“I don’t think any of them deserve a bonus. Most especially the SSS. They need to be more sensitive to pensioners. Their salaries and benefits are too much. They have too many officers. They are a monopoly and still perform poorly,” said Recto.

The request for performance bonus comes after its strong opposition to pension raises by the proposed measures by Senate and House of Representatives to grant a P2,000 additional pension to SSS members presumably due to luck of funds.

“That is a selfish move. The SSS was created not for its employees. Unahin muna nila mga pensioners bago sila,” said Sotto.

“We’re doing about P30 billion in terms of investment income. Our collection has increased by 10 percent. So mataas ang collection efficiency ng SSS. Ang benefits tumaas din ng 10 percent,” De Quiros said in a television interview.
