Kuwaiti Employer to Appear in Court After Filipina Helper Complains 6 Years of Abuse, Unpaid Wages

A Kuwaiti woman will appear in a court in Kuwait after being accused of torturing her Filipino domestic helper for six years, burning her and not paying her any wage during the same period.

According to Al-Qabas daily as cited by Arab Times, The Kuwaiti employer will face the charges in the Criminal Court set on March 16, 2016.

Records indicate the Filipina maid, unable to bear the pain and maltreatment of her employer, finally escaped from the house and sought the help from Philippine embassy in Kuwait. She told embassy staff she has not received her salary for six years and instead was subjected to various forms of torture while being kept behind locked doors.

Attorney Sultan Al-Tuwalah, who represents the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait said he has prepared the case documentation while expressing dismay over the employer’s behavior.
