A Hong Kong employment agency was fined after being found guilty of charging excessively on a domestic helper applicant.
Artellect Limited, which is located in Tuen Mun, was slapped a HK$45,000 (P274,205) fine after it violated the law mandating that agency fees collected from applicants should not exceed 10% of the monthly salary of a domestic helper.
The victim stood as witness as Hong Kong’s Labour Department filed a case against the agency following the applicant filed a complaint.
Artellect is the eighth employment agency penalized this year for violating local labor laws.
Other agencies that previously received punishments include Bagus Employment Agency in Central, Satisfactory Employment & Travel Centre Limited in Tai Wai, Vicks Maid Consultant Company in Sha Tin, Joyce Agency in Kwai Chung, Maidhouse Employment Agency Co Limited in Tsuen Wan, Smile Sunshine Employment Limited in North Point and Shun Tat Employment Agency Company in Causeway Bay.
