While it seemed that the attention was focused on the issue of ‘tanim bala’ or planting bullets on passenger luggage, the head of agency supervising the security of Ninoy Aquino International Airport is unaware that a huge haul of narcotics intercepted in Hong Kong left the airport without getting noticed.

Office of Transport Security (OTS) head Roland Recamono admitted Wednesday afternoon that he was not aware that four Filipinas carrying 2.5 kilos of cocaine have been arrested in Hong Kong.

“This is the first time I learned of this information,” Recamono told ABS-CBN News.

Recamono expressed surprise as to how the huge amount of prohibited substance managed to slip past two x-ray machines manned by airport screeners, the very same people responsible for the detection and confiscation of bullets from passengers.

The prohibited drugs were discovered by authorities in Hong Kong after the four Filipinas arrived via Cebu Pacific flight 5J 142 on September 26.

Sheryl Chua, Marilou Thomas, Remelyn Rogue and a dentist identified as Dr. Ana Loella were arrested for foiled smuggling of 2.5 kilos of cocaine.
