A Filipino national working as a pediatrician at the International Hospital of Bahrain was killed in a road accident on October 29.

Assistant Secretary Charles Jose, spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain confirmed that a Filipino national was confirmed dead in a road accident in the Budaiya Highway, Bahrain.

According to a report on the Gulf Daily News, Dr. Mary Ann Ibrahim Fernandez, 53, was pinned under the wheels of a lorry in Bahrain. She sustained severe fractures that caused her death.

The driver of the lorry is now in the custody of Bahrain police while the victim’s relatives have been notified of her death, according to DFA.

A footage from a closed-circuit television camera showed Fernandez walking toward the lorry when it suddenly moved forward, the driver unaware that a person had walked in front of the vehicle. A passerby tried to warn the driver but he had already run over Fernandez.
