Two Filipino workers were injured in a mortar attack near the border between Saudi Arabia and Yemen on September 18.
According to Assistant Secretary Charles Jose of the Department of Foreign Affairs, a Filipina nurse and a construction worker sustained shrapnel wounds when a mortar exploded near their accommodation in Samtah, Jizah, Saudi Arabia.
Both of them are now in stable condition.
Representatives from the Philippine consulate in Jeddah arrived in Yemen to coordinate with Filipino nurses working near the border with Saudi Arabia. Although several nurses have agreed to return to the Philippines without finishing their employment contracts, several others opted to stay despite escalating crisis in Yemen.
Yemen has seen six attacks in the past three months, the last one occuring on Thursday, when a bomb went off inside a mosque, killing at least 29 people.
Around 400 Filipinos are still in Yemen and about 3,000 compatriots based on the Saudi Arabian side of the border.
