A Singapore court has sentenced a Filipino nurse to four months in prison for posting inflammatory comments on Facebook against Singaporeans and lying to police investigators.
Ello Ed Mundsel Bello, 28, earlier pleaded guilty to three charges.
“He was convicted on one count under the Sedition Act, for promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility, and on two counts of providing false information to police. An additional charge under the Sedition Act, and another for lying to police, will be taken into consideration during sentencing,” reports Channel NewsAsia.
He was also convicted on two counts of providing false information to police.
His social media posts include “praying that disastors (sic) strike Singapore and more Singaporeans will die”. He will “celebrate” if this happens, he said.
He ended his Facebook post with the declaration: “REMEMBER PINOY BETTER AND STRONGER THAN STINKAPOREANS.”
Bello could be slapped a fine of up to S$5,000 (P166,648) or jailed for up to three years or both, for promoting hatred and fanning hostility among different races of people in Singapore.
Bello was fired from his job at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and arrested on April 7. His passport was confiscated while his bail was set at S$10,000.
